Diving Bell Spider

The diving bell spider is the only spider on Earth that spends its entire life underwater — yet it has no gills. Instead, it spins a silk dome beneath the surface and hauls air down trapped in the hairs on its body, inflating it into a shimmering, breathable bubble. Inside this "diving bell," it hunts, eats, molts, and reproduces — and the bubble even functions like a gill, exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide with the surrounding water. Long before humans engineered diving bells to explore the ocean depths, this spider had already perfected the concept in silk.
